About Rachel at CuriousNeuro

Hi, I’m Rachel, founder of CuriousNeuro Counselling.
I’m a neuro-affirming, trauma-informed counsellor with lived experience of late-identified neurodivergence, and I know what it can feel like to move through the world slightly out of step.

CuriousNeuro Counselling grew from my own experience of being diagnosed with ADHD and Autism later in life. That diagnosis helped many things finally make sense, but it also brought grief, confusion, and a lot of questions about identity, burnout, self-trust, and what comes next.

I created this practice to offer the kind of space I know so many neurodivergent adults are searching for: a place that feels kind, validating, thoughtful, and safe enough to begin untangling the noise. A place where you can explore who you are underneath years of coping, masking, and pushing through. A place where neurodivergence is not something to fix, but something to understand, honour, and support.

I offer online counselling for adults who are ADHDers, Autistic, otherwise neurodivergent, or exploring what neurodivergence might mean for them, especially those navigating late diagnosis, identity shifts, overwhelm, shame, burnout, emotional regulation challenges, and the ongoing effort of trying to make life work in a world that often hasn’t been built with their brain in mind.

My approach is person-centred, strengths-based, neuro-affirming, and trauma-informed. I work collaboratively and with curiosity, helping clients build greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and practical support strategies that fit their actual lives.

I hold a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Bachelor of Psychological Science, and I am a registered member of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). My work is informed by ongoing professional development, supervision, and evidence-based approaches, while always staying grounded in respect for lived experience and individual differences.

Whether you are newly diagnosed, self-identifying, feeling overwhelmed, trying to make sense of your past, or simply exhausted from masking, you do not have to figure it all out on your own. I walk alongside you as we explore what support, structure, healing, and self-acceptance can look like for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can easily schedule a Telehealth session through your online client portal, which is hosted on Zanda. Once you create an account, you can book, reschedule, or cancel appointments anytime. This system gives you full control and flexibility to manage your sessions at your convenience.

What is Telehealth counselling, and how does it work?

All sessions are conducted via Zanda and Zoom, a secure and user-friendly platform.  Telehealth allows you to access support from the comfort of your own space, making it especially beneficial for those who prefer a sensory-friendly environment or more flexibility in their schedule.

Can I use my NDIS plan for counselling sessions?

Yes! If your NDIS plan includes Capacity Building funding under Improved Daily Living (Category 15), you can use it to cover counselling sessions at CuriousNeuro Counselling. I work with self-managed and plan-managed participants. If you need help understanding how this works, feel free to ask, and I’ll guide you through the process.

Do you accept mental health care plans?

At this time, I don’t accept mental health care plans (MHCPs). However, my services are designed to be accessible and flexible, and I’m happy to discuss payment options with you.

What approach do you use in counselling?

At CuriousNeuro, my approach is neuro-affirming, person-centred, and strengths-based, meaning that our sessions focus on who you are, what works for your brain, and what you need to thrive.

I always support from a Rogerian (Person-Centred) approach, which means I believe you are the expert on your own experience. My role is to provide a non-judgmental, empathetic, and validating space where you feel safe to explore your thoughts, emotions, and challenges at your own pace.

Beyond this foundation, I draw from various therapeutic modalities depending on what best supports you.

Every person is unique, and my approach adapts to your individual needs, preferences, and goals. At its core, my work is centred on acceptance, validation, and helping you create a life that works for you.

What if I experience technical issues during a Telehealth session?

If we experience any technical glitches, don’t worry, we’ll work through them! If a connection drops, I’ll reach out to you by email to reschedule or continue as needed.

Can you diagnose ADHD or Autism?

As a counsellor, I do not provide formal diagnoses. However, I work closely with clients who are in the process of seeking diagnosis or have already been diagnosed. My role is to support you in understanding what ADHD or Autism means for you and to help you navigate your journey with practical strategies and empathetic guidance.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Life happens! If you need to cancel or reschedule, I ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice. You can manage your appointments through the online client portal or get in touch directly if something comes up last minute.

What resources or support can I access outside of sessions?

I often share articles, podcasts, and practical tools that align with our work together. I also provide downloadable resources (such as guides on Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria or executive functioning tips) on my website for clients who want extra support between sessions.

How long are the counselling sessions?

Each session lasts approximately 50 minutes. This time allows us to focus on your needs while also keeping the session manageable and productive.

What if I’m feeling nervous about my first session?

Feeling nervous before starting counselling is totally normal, especially if this is your first time or if you’re unsure what to expect. In our first session, we’ll take things at a slow pace, getting to know each other and discussing your goals at your own pace. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with. We’ll work together to build trust and understanding.

How often should I attend sessions?

The frequency of sessions depends on your individual needs and goals. Some clients prefer weekly or fortnightly sessions, while others may find monthly check-ins more helpful. We’ll work together to find a rhythm that supports you best.

Do you offer group sessions?

At this time, CuriousNeuro Counselling focuses on individual sessions. However, if there’s a demand for group support, I may explore offering group counselling or workshops in the future.

Do you offer support for partners or family members?

Yes! I offer psychoeducation sessions for partners and family members who want to better understand ADHD or Autism and how they can support their loved one. These sessions are designed to help improve communication and strengthen relationships.
