CuriousNeuro

What exactly does

CuriousNeuro mean?

At Curious Neuro, “Curious” reflects our dedication to exploring and understanding the unique ways each brain works. We invite our clients to approach their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with curiosity and self-compassion, fostering deeper self-awareness in a supportive and non-judgmental space.

By embracing curiosity, we empower individuals to honor their differences, celebrate their strengths, and cultivate a greater sense of acceptance for who they truly are.

“Neuro” represents neurodiversity, encompassing ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, and other natural variations in how people think, process, and experience the world. It reflects our commitment to supporting and celebrating individuals whose brains work differently, honoring the value of diverse ways of thinking.

Together, “CuriousNeuro” symbolises a space where curiosity meets understanding—a place where diverse minds are celebrated, and every individual is empowered to thrive in their own authentic way.

Hi, I’m Rachel

I’m the counsellor behind Curious Neuro Counselling, and my mission is simple: to create a space where neurodivergent adults and teens feel understood, supported, and genuinely heard.

My approach is person-centered and neuro-affirming, which means I focus on your unique strengths, experiences, and values rather than trying to fit you into a one-size-fits-all model.

I specialise in working with ADHD and Autism, including individuals navigating a new understanding of their neurodivergence, whether diagnosed later in life, exploring their identity or self-identify as ADHD and/or Autistic.

ADHD, in particular, is an area of deep personal and professional interest for me. This dual lens allows me to connect with my clients in a meaningful way, offering insights and strategies that are both practical and empathetic.

I hold a Master’s of Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Bachelor of Psychological Science and a Diploma of Counselling. I have also completed specialised training in neurodiversity-affirming practices, executive functioning support, emotional regulation, and trauma-informed care.

Beyond formal education, I remain committed to ongoing learning and you can find me immersing myself in multiple professional development courses at a time, ensuring my clients receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based support.

My background is as diverse as I am, and includes youth mentoring, breastfeeding counselling, NDIS support coordination and psychosocial recovery coaching, and suicide prevention crisis support. Not to mention the 20 years spent in the hospitality and events industry, before I followed my passion for helping others.

If you’re finding your way through challenges like executive functioning struggles, rejection sensitivity, sensory overwhelm, social exhaustion, or feeling like you’re living in a world that doesn’t always understand you, I’m here to help. Together, we’ll find strategies that work for you—strategies that embrace your individuality and avoid rigid, cookie-cutter solutions like endless to-do lists and alarms.

I’ve always been fascinated by the neurodiverse mind and the incredible creativity, resilience, and problem-solving abilities that often come with it. My goal isn’t just to help you “cope” but to help you thrive—to tap into your strengths, celebrate your uniqueness, and create a meaningful and fulfilling life on your terms.

Outside of work, you’ll often find me staying up-to-date with the latest research in neurodiversity, spending time with my family, or finding new ways to express my creativity. I believe that everyone deserves the chance to live authentically, and I’m here to walk alongside you on your journey—one step at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can easily schedule a Telehealth session through your online client portal, which is hosted on PowerDiary. Once you create an account, you can book, reschedule, or cancel appointments anytime. This system gives you full control and flexibility to manage your sessions at your convenience.

What is Telehealth counselling, and how does it work?

All sessions are conducted via Coviu, a secure and user-friendly platform specifically designed for Telehealth. Coviu offers features that enhance the online counselling experience, such as easy access with no need to download software, and it ensures your privacy with end-to-end encryption. Telehealth allows you to access support from the comfort of your own space, making it especially beneficial for those who prefer a sensory-friendly environment or more flexibility in their schedule.

Can I use my NDIS plan for counselling sessions?

Yes! If your NDIS plan includes Capacity Building funding under Improved Daily Living (Category 15), you can use it to cover counselling sessions at CuriousNeuro Counselling. I work with self-managed and plan-managed participants. If you need help understanding how this works, feel free to ask, and I’ll guide you through the process.

Do you accept mental health care plans?

At this time, I don’t accept mental health care plans (MHCPs). However, my services are designed to be accessible and flexible, and I’m happy to discuss payment options with you.

What approach do you use in counselling?

My approach is person-centred, neuro-affirming, and strengths-based. This means I focus on your individual experiences and work with your strengths to create strategies that are tailored to you. My goal is to provide a supportive space where you can explore your challenges without judgment and discover what works best for your unique brain.

What if I experience technical issues during a Telehealth session?

If we experience any technical glitches, don’t worry—we’ll work through them! If a connection drops, I’ll reach out to you by email to reschedule or continue as needed.

Can you diagnose ADHD or Autism?

As a counsellor, I do not provide formal diagnoses. However, I work closely with clients who are in the process of seeking diagnosis or have already been diagnosed. My role is to support you in understanding what ADHD or Autism means for you and to help you navigate your journey with practical strategies and empathetic guidance.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Life happens! If you need to cancel or reschedule, I ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice. You can manage your appointments through the online client portal or get in touch directly if something comes up last minute.

What resources or support can I access outside of sessions?

I often share articles, podcasts, and practical tools that align with our work together. I also provide downloadable resources (such as guides on Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria or executive functioning tips) on my website for clients who want extra support between sessions.

How long are the counselling sessions?

Each session lasts approximately 50 minutes. This time allows us to focus on your needs while also keeping the session manageable and productive.

What if I’m feeling nervous about my first session?

Feeling nervous before starting counselling is totally normal, especially if this is your first time or if you’re unsure what to expect. In our first session, we’ll take things slow, getting to know each other and discussing your goals at your own pace. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with—we’ll work together to build trust and understanding.

How often should I attend sessions?

The frequency of sessions depends on your individual needs and goals. Some clients prefer weekly or biweekly sessions, while others may find monthly check-ins more helpful. We’ll work together to find a rhythm that supports you best.

Do you offer group sessions?

At this time, CuriousNeuro Counselling focuses on individual sessions. However, if there’s a demand for group support, I may explore offering group counselling or workshops in the future.

Do you offer support for partners or family members?

Yes! I offer psychoeducation sessions for partners and family members who want to better understand ADHD or Autism and how they can support their loved one. These sessions are designed to help improve communication and strengthen relationships.
